West Dunbartonshire Council have drawn up a list of options for services which could be cut in next year’s Budget.
They are:
– removing the Care of Garden Scheme
– reducing bin collections
– reducing street cleaning
– removing weekend litter collections
– closing the Old Kirkpatrick recycling centre
– increasing biodiversity!
– reduce winter gritting of footpaths
– increase charge for special uplift
– closure of Dalmuir Golf Course
– remove festive light funding
– reduce council staffed school crossings
– reduce janitors in primary schools
– change the provision of school lunches
– reduce funding for school budgets
– reduce funding for supported study
– reduce funding for school swimming lessons
– reduce registry services
We are told that none of these measures is likely to be introduced although they have been drawn up in a report by officials.
Which begs the question: Why did the council waste all this time and money preparing this list? Especially when its ultimate purpose was supposed to be to save public money?
A demonstration against Budget cuts, which First Minister Nicola Sturgeon states are not necessary anyway, will take place at 5pm outside the Burgh Hall in Church Street, Dumbarton, tonight (Wednesday).
