Glasgow Vigil for Lyra McKee
Our sister Lyra McKee’s funeral is 1 pm Wednesday in Belfast. Lyra was young journalist killed in Derry on 18th April 2019.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Glasgow Branch will host a vigil at Buchanan Street at 1pm to remember Lyra and stand with her family, friends and those who knew her. Please bring a candle, Pride flags and banners.
All welcome to attend and please circulate this public event widely. If fellow-journalists and trade unionists can’t attend – wherever you are, with others or alone – please commemorate Lyra by holding up a sign with the slogan ‘We Stand With Lyra.’ and share a photo with the hashtag #WeStandWithLyra.
Lyra is the third journalist killed in Ireland. Three far too many: and we have to stand up now. In Europe, we have seen murders in Malta and Slovakia, the brazen Saudi state murder of Jamal Khasoggi, the Charlie Hebdo massacre and the killing of two journalists by Israeli forces within the past year.
