ENGLISH ‘SCOTS FOR YES’ MAN WANTS HOLYROOD SEAT

SCOTS-BASED ROYAL NAVY MINE HUNTER SETS SAIL FOR GULF DEPLOYMENT SCOTS-based Royal Navy mine hunter HMS Shoreham left her home port at HM Naval Base Clyde today (June 18) to embark on a 6,000 mile journey to the Gulf region. The 40 men and women on board the Sandown Class Mine Counter Measures Vessel (known as an MCMV) waved farewell to friends and families as they set sail from the Argyll and Bute Base to take over from sister-ship HMS Bangor who has spent the past three-years in the Middle East. Sailing the ship was Crew 3 from the First Mine Counter Measures Squadron (MCM1), the Faslane-based force which forms part of the UK’s dedicated Mine Warfare Battle Staff.

Probably the most interesting of the SNP contenders for Jackie Baillie’s seat in the Scottish Parliament – and the person least likely to win the nomination – is Math Campbell-Sturgess.
Math comes from Rosneath and supports the Armed Forces who, in West Dunbartonshire and South Argyll, are mainly associated with HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane and Coulport.
The SNP is totally against nuclear weapons and would like them transferred out of Scotland as soon as possible, a policy which is unlikely to go down well with thousands of members of the military who live in the constituency.
He said: “This election we have a real chance of winning Dumbarton constituency for the SNP – and having an MSP who can make a real difference in our community.
“But only if that candidate has the background, experience & skills needed to beat Labour. They will throw everything at this seat.
“As an Englishman, who has served in the Reserves, I won’t allow Labour to trot out the same old tired arguments or suggestions about the SNP being anti-English or not supporting our Armed Forces.”
Mr Campbell-Sturgess added: “I spent a full five years in office as a Councillor, with a track record of getting things done for my area and pushing forward new thinking at the national level – and I also founded English Scots for YES, campaigning all over Scotland in 2014 and since for independence.
I might not have been born in Scotland – but. got here as soon as I could.
“Dumbarton is my home – not just a seat for me to take but a chance to make our community better. Please, if you’re an SNP member in Dumbarton, Helensburgh, Vale of Leven or Lomond North, consider voting for Math!”
