THE internal SNP battle to become the party’s Clydebank and Milngavie candidate to replace Gil Paterson at next year’s Scottish Parliament election is now a four-way fight.

The big man who has been in politics since the 1970s in taking a well-earned retirement and last month that Roza Salih, one of the refugee campaigners known as the “Glasgow Girls”, and Catalan activist Valentina Servera Clavell threw her hats in the ring to succeed him.

They have now been joined by Debra Torrance and Kate Waddell.

The Clydebank Post says that Ms Torrance describes herself a “a dedicated and active member of the SNP’s Clydebank branch” and maintains she “passionate about democracy and equality”, and divides her time between local community activism and caring for her elderly mother.

Ms Waddell, announcing her bid to run for the candidacy on social media, is a long-time resident of Milngavie and says she has been an SNP member since 2014.

It’s understood that the result of a ballot of SNP constituency members on their preferred candidate will be announced next month.

Current MSP Gil Paterson announced in August that he would not be seeking re-election in next May’s poll due to personal circumstances.
