One local man complained bitterly after his wife received a ticket, making her stop off an extremely expensive, unexpected error.

Far too dear in fact.

She was then contacted by parking operator Parkmaven and told she had been fined £100 fine after parking in the car park which services the Malt and Myre and Premier Inn, owned by Whitbread.

Other motorists have also have also been caught out at the Dumbarton service area, which was free to use until January, and have warned other residents on social media.

The lettern issued by London-based Parkmaven says that the charge will be reduced to £60 if paid within 28 days.

Signs have been erected at the car park outlining that parking is free to Premier Inn guests with three hours of free parking for Brewers Fayre customers.

Drivers not using the hotel or restaurant can pay to use the car park through a phone app.

Labour candidate for Dumbarton, Jackie Baillie, has written to Whitbread complaing on behalf of her constituent.

She said: “I have been contacted by a constituent expressing concerns that his wife and other people have been issued parking fines by Parkmaven Ltd while parking in the Premier Inn Car Park in the Lomondgate business park.”
