Detectives are appealing for information following serious assaults in Dumbarton and Balloch on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Around 11.45pm, a 23 year old man was on Stirling Road at its junction with Bellsmyre Avenue in Dumbarton when he was approached by three men and assaulted.
The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as stable.
There is limited information on the three men – they are aged between 18 and 25 years of age.
Following the incident, the three men made off towards Dumbarton Town Centre.
Officers are checking relevant CCTV footage for any additional information on the suspects or the incident.
Detective Constable Geoff McKillop said: “The motive for this attack is unknown and a young man has been injured.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us. In particular, any motorists with dash cam devices, I would ask them to check their cameras and they may have captured an image which could assist our investigation.”

Meanwhile, detectives are appealing for information after a 16-year-old boy was assaulted next to the pier in Balloch Country Park.
The incident happened around 5.40pm on Tuesday, 29 June, and the boy sustained serious arm and head injuries. He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.
Detective Constable David Jamieson, of Dumbarton Police Office, said: “There were several groups of people around at the time of the incident and we would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened.
“If anyone has information, including mobile footage, that might help with our inquiries then please get in touch.”
