A SENIOR member of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Medical Illustration team has received a rare and highly prestigious honour from her profession’s governing body.

The Institute of Medical Illustrators has presented Kathy McFall, Head of Medical Illustration Services at NHSGGC, with an Honorary Fellowship, following a nomination by the Institute’s Chair, Jane Tovey.

Kathy, who manages one of the biggest Medical Illustration teams in the UK, said she was “so very honoured” to have received the honour, and paid tribute to her colleagues and managers for the ongoing support she has received from them.

She was presented with her Honorary Fellowship by Jane Tovey, who said in her nomination citation that Kathy was a “consummate professional and an enormous asset to the profession”.

Antoinette Parr, NHSGGC’s General Manager for Medical Illustration, said: “I’m delighted that Kathy has received such a prestigious honour.

“She is in charge of one of the biggest teams of its kind in the country, and her leadership rubs off on those around her, ensuring the very highest standards in all aspects of the service’s work.

“This Honorary Fellowship is well-deserved recognition of her career at NHSGGC, and her service to the Institute.”

Kathy is a former Chair of the Institute – which sets and maintains standards for the medical illustration profession, bringing together the disciplines of clinical photography, medical art, illustration, graphic design and video within healthcare – and is currently its Education and Training Lead.

She has been committed to the Institute throughout her career, and became a Fellow in 2000. In 2007 she was awarded the Norman K. Harrison gold medal, which is the Institute’s highest honour.
