Responding to the Scottish Government’s statement on the future of ScotRail, LibDem MSP Beatrice Wishart MSP., pictured right, said: “50 days before they take on the running of the railways, more than 2 years after the decision was taken, and only now are the government starting to think what they want to do with it. That doesn’t exactly say the government is prepared.
“Not only that but on this SNP/Green government’s watch, we are seeing fewer services and ticket offices reducing their hours.
“Scot Lib Dems have set out ambitious plans to tempt people out of their cars and on to the rail network by cutting fares and exploring opening and reopening lines to communities who are crying out for them.
“The new transport minister needs to be a minister for lower fares, new lines and a better service. Not just a manager overseeing the decline of Scotland’s rail service.”
- Scot Lib Dems are calling for the introduction in Scotland of the railcard model that already exists in London and the South East, which would mean everyone is eligible to get 1/3 off rail travel. The party’s proposals would also mean the discount is increased to 50% for those who already qualify for railcards.
