By Bill Heaney

West Dunbartonshire Local Government Committee has announced the candidates for Clydebank and Kilpatrick in the upcoming local council elections.

Three sitting Labour members will stand for re-election with three new candidates joining them.

Clare Steel, who led the campaign for vulnerable teenagers to receive the Covid vaccine, will stand in the Clydebank Central ward alongside NHS worker Craig Edward.

Douglas McAllister, Danny Lennie and Lawrence O’Neill, who are standing for Labour.

Two well-respected councillors, Douglas McAllister and Lawrence O’Neill will again stand in the Kilpatrick ward and sitting councillor Danny Lennie will bid to be re-elected in Clydebank Waterfront.

He will stand alongside community activist June McKay who is determined to secure better access for disabled people.

Duncan Robinson, Secretary of the West Dunbartonshire Local Government Committee said: “I am delighted to present the candidates for the three wards covering Clydebank and Old Kilpatrick.

“As well as experience among this group, our new candidates are determined campaigners who are passionate about making a difference in their communities.

“This current SNP-led administration of West Dunbartonshire Council has dragged its heels on major projects and failed to make any real impact over the last five years.

“I believe this group of Labour candidates will work tirelessly for constituents and ensure that the communities of West Dunbartonshire recover stronger than ever as we emerge from the Covid pandemic.”

The local council elections take place on Thursday, May 5.
