Congratulations to John and Margaret McEwan, who celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss recently. Deputy Provost John Millar joined the couple at Balloch House to wish them his best on their special milestone. The couple met as teenagers in the Co-operative Hall (or ‘wee hut’) in Levenvale and married at Alexandria Parish Church in their early twenties. Their first home together was in Albert Street, Alexandria, before they moved to Rosshead – and they still live there 53 years later. John was employed as a spray-painter, and his stints working abroad led to a sideline in professional football, while Margaret worked at the Croft factory in Renton before moving to Westclox. The couple have three daughters and now also count six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren in their family.
