PLANNING: DUMBUCK HOTEL DEMOLITION PROPOSAL

Happy days at Dumbuck Hotel, scene of celebrations for so many Dumbarton families and friends.

By Bill Heaney

Hundreds of Dumbartonians will be sad to see this application proposal to West Dunbartonshire Council for planning permission to demolish the Dumbuck Hotel.

The hotel has so much history attached to it and has been the favourite venue for the celebration of births, marriages and deaths, civic receptions, company dances and Burns’ suppers for more than a century.

The hotel was last owned and run by the McMillan family, Tommy and Petra, who completely refurbished and marketed the property to a high standard – to no avail.

The attempt to bring new life back to it, which cost many thousands of pounds, and return it to its former glory as the community’s leading events venue, sadly failed because the public never got back to using it the way they had in the past.

It now looks as if it will be a place of happy memories for all the people who were married there and who celebrated important family events there.
