HEALTH: People with experience sought to join Health Board’s Local Stoma Forum

By Lucy Ashton

We are looking for people with experience of Stoma Services to join NHSGGC’s Local Stoma Forum

The group helps us listen to our communities and make sure that the recent experiences of people accessing Stoma Care are able to shape the work of NHSGGC as we continue to develop Stoma Services.

We are hoping to recruit three people who have had a stoma for 12 months or longer or have experience supporting someone with a stoma and are passionate about improving how the NHS works, and that can;

If you are interested in potentially joining this group you can contact Elaine Paton or Vikki Garrick via this telephone number or email:

Telephone: (Admin line) – 0141 201 6022
Email: PRESCRIBING@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your name, contact details and why you would like to get involved preferably by Monday 3rd July.

Or you can complete a note of interest form https://link.webropol.com/s/StomaForum2023 . We will then get in touch to arrange a short chat to get to know you and explore how best we can involve you in our work.

Further Information on joining our Local Stoma Forum

In joining NHSGGC Local Stoma Forum, you will help us provide a local platform for facilitated discussions relating to NHS GGC stoma care services, commission of stoma care clinical guidelines and ratification of formulary changes for stoma products Key areas that will be covered include:

This opportunity is open to anyone living in or receiving care and support from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and has experience of Stoma Services.

The group won’t be the place to bring up personal concerns or complaints, but will act as a place to use your experiences to discuss and explore how things can be improved for everyone receiving Stoma Care.

If you are an advocate or would like to represent a community or support group that would be great, and we would be happy to work with you where we can to make sure we can include all the voices of your group in our work.

Having a stoma does not mean you have to give up sport. One patient told us: “My experience has shown that, with a little preparation and determination, a stoma shouldn’t stop you from living an active life, whether enjoying the thrill of competitive sport or exploring the great outdoors. The most important thing is to get on your bike and ride.”
