Several forecasters are predicting that snow will fall across most of Scotland just as schools and workplaces break up for the Easter holidays on Thursday.
The white stuff could come sooner though and weather forecasters, such as ITV’s Lucy Verasamy, pictured right, and Carol Kirkwood of the BBC, top of page, are telling Scots not to leave their warm clothing in the wardrobe and to wrap up warm for the weekend.
Instead of rolling their Easter eggs down the braes of Balloch Park on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond local people could be looking out their skis and sledges and taking to the hills.
One Met Office spokesman said: “April could continue on this cool to cold note we have now, but snow is likely for in and around the upcoming Easter period.
“However, April is usually famed for rain and showers and as part of weather folklore, but this year could prove to be somewhat different and much drier after the early part of the month is out of the way.”
While details are still being worked out ahead of the Easter weekend, the Met Office prediction is for another bout of “blustery showers” on Good Friday.
Saturday will see a continuation of this showery theme in southern and western areas such as West Dunbartonshire and Argyll, though there is an increasing chance of brighter spells further north and east.”
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: “Showers will continue into the weekend, especially for southern and western areas.
“However, it is likely that we will see something of an improvement for most areas, with the showers tending to be less frequent, and a better chance of longer spells of sunshine for eastern and northern areas in particular.
“It will also become less windy, and temperatures should start to trend upwards, feeling quite warm in any sunshine.”
Further details on the Easter forecast from the Met Office will be issued as the week goes on.
