NHSGGC and HSCP team members announced as Nurse of the Year Finalists

By Lucy Ashton

Five NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) and Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) nurses, and three nursing teams, are finalists of nationally recognised awards for excellence

The Royal College of Nursing Scotland (RCN) announced today that the team members would be in the running to receive an accolade at its annual Nurse of the Year Awards, in May 2024. These awards are a celebration of excellence in Scottish nursing, acknowledging, highlighting, and celebrating the unwavering commitment and exceptional professional care provided by nursing staff.

The categories encompass various nursing specialties, acknowledging the indispensable contributions of registered nurses, nursing support workers, broader nursing teams and nursing students. They also recognise the innovation, leadership, and dedication to learning displayed within the nursing community.

Professor Angela Wallace, left, Executive Director for Nursing and Midwifery at NHSGGC explained the importance of this recognition.

“We are delighted to hear that our nursing teams and individuals have been recognised across six of the 11 award categories. Our nurses work hard every day to deliver a high standard of person-centred care, focusing on what matters to an individual and catering to their needs. These nurses deserve to be recognised for how they have raised the standard of care, and the impact that their work has on others. My congratulations to them all on being finalists.

She added: “The diversity of specialities amongst the nurses recognised, from mother and baby units to prison health care, also demonstrates the vast variety of care that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is delivering alongside its health and social care partners. These awards are a nice snapshot of that too.”

NHSGGC and HSCP finalists are as follows:

Julie Lamberth, RCN Scotland Board Chair, said: “I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to showcase the innovation and commitment of nurses, nursing support workers and nursing students across Scotland. Regardless of the outcome, all our finalists exemplify the daily dedication of nursing staff in delivering the best of nursing care for the people of Scotland.”

Colin Poolman, RCN Scotland Director, expressed his enthusiasm, saying: “Our awards are a wonderful occasion and allow us to give some well-deserved recognition for and demonstrate the excellence of nursing staff in Scotland. The calibre of submissions was exceptional, and we hope the finalists, as well as anyone who was nominated, feels the love and appreciation people have for the work they do.”

The winners of each award will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on 23 May 2024 at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. The prestigious overall RCN Scotland Nurse of the Year Award will be selected from the registered nurse winners from the eligible categories.
