Staff at HM Naval Base Clyde were visited by Olympic royalty this week ahead of the official opening of the Paris Games.
Retired Olympic rower Pete Reed OBE delivered the latest in a series of ‘NED Talks’ an inspirational and insightful seminar, while staff had the opportunity to handle his haul of medals.
The three-time Olympic gold medallist rower is no stranger to the Royal Navy, having served in the Senior Service for many years before retiring in 2022. Since then he has been made an honorary Captain, maintaining his close links with the military community.
During his athletic career, Pete won gold in the Men’s Coxless four at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, then gold in the Men’s eight at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. He also snatched five golds and three silver medals at the World Championships making him a genuine rowing legend.  The first Clyde NED Talk took place back in January this year when JJ Chalmers visited the site.
