We’re beyond thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of ‘A Can of Mind and A Tin of Think So’, a multimedia boxed set celebrating the family archive of Michael Marra.
The edition of 250 boxes is a collaboration between Eddie Summerton, DOJ City Audio Print Publishing, and Assai Records and will be officially released on 27th September, 2024.
Collected in the box are…
– A 200-page hardback book focusing on Michael’s archive of artworks, handwritten lyrics and notes. Pencil, pen, ink, scissor, camera, computer, sticks. Fourteen writers offer personal anecdotes – including Loudon Wainwright III, Val McDermid, Liz Lochhead, Roddy Woomble, and Gerry Hassan.
– A newly produced vinyl LP collecting 14 unreleased demos and home recordings compiled by Michael’s son Matthew. The collection spans 35 years of song writing and features early versions of classic album tracks, alongside rarely heard and previously unheard songs.
– A publication illuminating Peggy Marra’s never-seen-before scrapbook of over 35 years of newspaper cuttings reviewing Michael’s fascinating stage life.
– A booklet featuring a Michael Marra / Saint Andrew song collection, with handwritten notes and translations by Michael and Saint Andrew.
– A reprint of Michael Craig’s ‘From the Overgate to Anchorage’ newsletter, originally produced in 1996.
– A hand printed t-shirt featuring Michael’s own Fair Isle design.
– An edition of six postcards of Michael’s artworks.
– A full colour poster of the legendary Frida collage and a signed full colour poster of Calum Colvin’s artwork for the ‘Candy Philosophy’ album cover.
– A screen print from the original artwork by Pat Santos for the ‘Gaels Blue’ album cover.
We’re eternally grateful to Eddie, the DOJ City team, and Keith Ingram of Assai Records for making this incredible set a reality.
Full pre-order details and images will follow soon.
Michael Marra said: “The tracks will be exclusive to the vinyl LP for now, with no download. Please accept this project for what it is, a huge amount of work has gone into it. A VERY limited number of the LP only will be made available at a later date.”
