St Margaret of Scotland Hospice

A Garden of Compassion and Healing

Today, we are shining a spotlight on the incredible impact of our Hospice gardens and the dedicated staff and volunteers who tend them. We are thrilled to introduce Craig Williams, who is joining our gardening team after his mother Wilma received care at St Margaret of Scotland Hospice.
Craig’s experience at our Hospice left a lasting impression on him:
“As I walked through the doors on that first day, there was just an immediate sense of caring but also of calm and compassion,” Craig shared. “The Hospice was not just there for my mum but for me, my family, and all our friends.”
Craig highlighted the importance of our gardens: “Gardening is especially important in the Hospice setting. It provides a familiar space in an unfamiliar setting, a calm space where patients and their families can unwind together or alone.”
We’re grateful to Craig for choosing to give back by volunteering with our gardening team. His perspective on the garden as a “living legacy and memorial” beautifully captures why this work is so vital.
To our incredible gardeners and all our staff – from reception to medical teams, from cleaners to management – thank you. Your dedication creates an environment of holistic care that touches lives in profound ways.
We invite you to share your own experiences of our Hospice gardens in the comments. How have these green spaces impacted your Hospice journey?
