A man has appeared in court charged with firearms offences following the evacuation of a multi-storey block in Dalmuir, Clydebank.
Chris Gates, 26, made no plea when he appeared on petition at Dumbarton Sheriff Court in Church Street.
Residents of Overtoun Court were evacuated on Monday when police discovered a “suspect item” in a flat in the building while carrying out inquiries into the recent death of a 58-year-old man in the area.
Some local residents were forced to stay in a nearby community centre overnight, while others had to stay in hotels.
Police Scotland said a bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion on the “device”.
The incident saw nearby Dalmuir railway station closed, causing cancellations to trains running through the station to and from Dumbarton, Balloch and Helensburgh..
Gates will appear again at the court at a later date.
Meanwhile, police have arrested and charged a second man, aged 41, who has not been named, in connection with a firearms offence. He is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, November 11.
