Dumbarton man John Rodgers may never have won a medal on the football field.
But super soccer enthusiast John was a star man off it when it came to administration and enthusiasm for multi-award winning St Patrick’s Former Pupils amateur football club.

And for this John, proudly wearing St Patrick’s colours on his tie, was deservedly presented with the prestigious British Empire Medal, which Dunbartonshire’s Lord Lieutenant Jill Young handed over on behalf of King Charles.
Provost Karen Murray Conaghan was present at the ceremony which took place in Clydebank Town Hall.

John has spent nearly 60 years with the St Patrick’s FP club and has followed them all over the country and beyond, looking after the players on the park and the administration off it.

He originally played for the team and has been involved in one backroom capacity or another for 58 years.

Joan Cameron, from Bearsden, was also honoured by King Charles for her service to the Samaritans. charity.

The awards were made in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

Honoured by King Charles were John Rodger and Joan Cameron who are pictured (front row) between Lord Lieutenant Jill Young and West Dunbartonshire Provost Karen Murray Conaghan. Top of page: One of the St Patrick’s FP teams pictured after they won yet another trophy.
