Book Week Scotland starts today – it is an annual celebration of books and reading, supported by Creative Scotland and SLIC. West Dunbartonshire Libraries are running a great programme of events for Book Week Scotland.
There are two creative writing sessions that will be provided by Ann Mackinnon, a local poet. The Short Story Writing session will be in Clydebank Library on Tuesday the 19th November at 2.00 pm and the Poetry Writing session will be in Alexandria Library on Thursday the 21st at 2.00 pm. Places are limited in each of them so anyone who is interested in taking part is strongly encouraged to book quickly to avoid any disappointment.
Our creative writing workshop, Surviving the Titanic, for children at Dumbarton Library on Thursday the 21st at 3.30 pm has proved to be very popular and is sold out but you can add your child’s name to a reserve list for it by phoning 01389 608992.
The acclaimed poet Rab Wilson will be performing from his book, Collier Laddie, which is a very powerful evocation of his experiences during the UK Miners Strike of 84-85. Rab is a former miner and a passionate advocate for the Scots language. It is in Clydebank Library on Thursday the 21st at 7.00 pm. This event will have a strong resonance for many people who lived through this period and who worked in Scotland’s heavy industrial sector.
Brigid Benson is a travel writer and she will be delivering the Ian Baillie Memorial event. This is an annual event which is held in memory of our much-loved colleague, Ian Baillie. Ian worked as a librarian for 40 years and was a very highly regarded and well-known figure in the community. She will be taking us on a Hebridean Journey and sharing the magic of Scotland’s Outer Isles.
This event will be accompanied by beautiful images of the islands. This will take place on Friday the 22nd at 7.00 pm in Alexandria Library.
All of our events are free but must be booked. Booking details are available from our website – https://www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/lib…/book-week-scotland/
