LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONSULTATIVE BALLOT ANNOUNCEMENT

Overwhelming 92% of council workers back strike action in UNISON ballot

Thank you to everyone who took part in the local government ballot, which closed on Thursday evening. In our consultative ballot, 92% of you voted to back strike action, sending a powerful message to COSLA and the Scottish Government.
This is a clear signal that local government workers deserve better than the 3% pay offer currently on the table. You’ve all shown that it’s time to get back to the negotiating table for a fair deal.
While strike action is always a last resort, we firmly believe you deserve a pay rise that reflects the vital work you do, not one that falls behind inflation and increases in living costs.
Your UNISON Local Government Committee, made up of elected local government stewards, will now discuss the results and the next steps. We’ll be in touch soon with updates.

GMB Scotland in COSLA: Your Ballot Result

Your consultative ballot for industrial action has closed.Your message couldn’t be clearer, 96% of you would support industrial action if COSLA do not improve the pay offer.

The last offer of 3% is below inflation (RPI for February 3.4%) meaning it is a real-terms pay cut for all.

Council Leaders expect you tighten your belt while they trouser eyewatering increases and discuss double-digit increases for Chief Executives.

It is you who deliver the vital services to our communities, support our children at school, clean our streets and care for the most vulnerable.

We will now call on Council Leaders to get back round the negotiating table if they want to avoid the threat of industrial action.
