A&E is stuck in a state of constant crisis, claims MSP Baillie

Commenting on weekly A&E statistics, which show that 2,507 people waited more than eight hours in emergency departments and 1,040 people waited more than 12, Scottish Labour Health spokesperson Jackie Baillie, pictured right, said “Under the SNP A&E is stuck in a state of constant crisis.

“Patients are being put in danger week in week out, and staff are exhausted and demoralised.

“The SNP cannot become complacent while thousands of Scots are still facing dangerously long waits for urgent care.

“Our NHS needs a change in direction and Scottish Labour is ready to deliver it.”

During week ending 13 April 2025:

• There were 26,867 attendances at type 1 departments in NHSScotland (compared to 27,978 the previous week, and 26,833 weekly average for 2024).
• 18,431 (68.6%) of type 1 attendances were seen and resulted in a subsequent admission, transfer or discharge within 4 hours (compared to 18,766 (67.1%) the previous week, and 17,357 (64.7%) weekly average for 2024).
• 2,507 (9.3%) patients spent more than 8 hours in a type 1 Department (compared to 2,774 (9.9%) the previous week, and 3,364 (12.5%) weekly average for 2024).
• 1,040 (3.9%) patients spent more than 12 hours in a type 1 Department (compared to 1,037 (3.7%) the previous week, and 1,490 (5.6%) weekly average for 2024).
