HELENSBURGH LIFEBOAT BUSY OVER CHRISTMAS

RNLI Helensburgh

Helensburgh lifeboat has been busy over the Christmas period.
On Sunday 28 December about 11.30 am, during a Sunday training exercise at Rhu Marina, the lifeboat was called out to assist a 54 ft motor vessel. The vessel with four persons on board was reported to have lost power and steerage off Ocean Terminal .
The lifeboat arrived quickly on the scene at 11:40 am. The vessel had deployed its anchor. The crew towed the motorboat into James Watt Dock. The lifeboat returned to the station at 13:10 and was refuelled and ready for service at 13.25.
In the early hours of Boxing Day the Coastguard requested the assistance of the lifeboat in a shoreline search for a person reported to be in difficulty. Launching at just after 12.30 am the lifeboat searched the shoreline while the coastguard units walked the shore. The person was found and transferred by helicopter to an ambulance.  Support Helensburgh lifeboat and help our volunteer crew save lives at sea.
Supporter Kathryn Armstrong sent the crew this message: “Well done, fabulous work especially out in the cold – I guess your gear is warm! But that’s only a tiny part of the story. Nine emergency vehicles by the shore until approximately 3 am Boxing Day.”
