Professor Fiona McQueen is said to have questioned why the local health board did not offer affected families £50,000, reportedly noting it would cover a holiday at the US theme park, instead of denying that safety defects had caused harm.
A public inquiry is looking into the design and construction of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow following deaths linked to infections.
Professor McQueen previously said she did “not recall” making the comment and insisted her priority had been patient safety.
At First Minister’s Questions, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar described the alleged comment as “shameful, utterly shameful”.
The first minister’s official spokesman later said that John Swinney had full confidence in Professor McQueen in her current role as chairwoman of the Scottish Police Authority, a public body that oversees policing.

Quite what political benefit will be achieved from the clown theatre attack on health staff is a big question. Health staff in the NHS will see it for what it is. They know what is good and what is not and where the issues lie.
Certain politicians might be better focussed on the absolute criminal and treacherous corruption that sits at the very heart of their party and which will destroy their party. People are not daft and they recognise cheap shot name calling. They know too the rottenness that sits at the top of their party.
Disaster is coming. Popularity is in terminal decline, and floor show cheap shot politicking is only going to accelerate that decline. Time to work together.
