It is with sorrow that the death is announced of Fr Pat Currie, former Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Maryhill and St Joseph’s, Milngavie.
Fr Pat was born in Dumbarton on March 1949 and ordained to the priesthood on the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul in 1973 by Archbishop Scanlan at St Peter’s College Cardross.
He was brought up in Brucehill, Dumbarton, in the large Currie family in Caledonia Terrace, who were well known and active members of St Michael’s parish.
Fr Pat was educated at St Patrick’s High School Dumbarton (1961-1967) and studied for the priesthood at St Peter’s Cardross (1967-1973)
His ministry took him far and wide across the Archdiocese:
1973: Assistant Priest St Mary Immaculate; 1974: Assistant Priest St Catherine Laboure; 1981: Assistant Priest Christ the King; 1989: Assistant Priest St Conval’s.
In 1994 he became Parish Priest at Holy Cross Croy; in the year 2000 he took over as PP at Immaculate Conception and in 2012 he was named Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Milngavie.
He retired from active ministry in autumn 2024 but continued to help out when he was able right up until a few weeks before his death.
Father Pat was a much loved, holy, kind and humble man. He died in the care of St Margaret’s Hospice in Clydebank. Please pray for him and his family and friends. Details of the funeral arrangements are that the Reception of Remains and Vigil will take place at St Michael’s Church, Cardross Road, Dumbarton, at 6pm on Monday, March 30.
