LATEST HELENSBURGH LEISURE CENTRE UPDATE

LATEST HELENSBURGH LEISURE CENTRE UPDATE …
Further delays have hit the reopening of Helensburgh’s £23m leisure centre following the discovery of severe dampness inside the building, adding to the structural complications caused by Storm Éowyn in January 2025.
Argyll & Bute Council reports: “Roof replacement works continue to make strong progress, with the initial roof build-up across Phases 1–5 now complete and Phase 6 currently underway. Subject to weather conditions, this phase is expected to be completed next week, after which installation of the final outer layer of roofing material will start across all six phases.”
However, the council admits “unexpected issues have arisen since the last update, which have caused a slight delay. This includes the internal works, originally scheduled to start in May. Further specialist assessments that have been required by our insurer have identified dampness deeper into the plasterwork than previously identified. This will require additional strip out works and reinstatement, than originally scoped. The new scope of works has now been agreed with the Loss Adjuster, with works expected to start shortly.”
Due to the ongoing disruption, Live Argyll states that services continue to be relocated. The Gym remains at Helensburgh Library, the Library is operating at the Pavilion in Hermitage Park, and Fitness Classes continue to run at the Victoria Halls. Rhu Bay
