Refurbishment work is about to start on play parks in Tarbet and Arrochar, thanks to a £60,000 share of funding allocated to Argyll and Bute by the Scottish Government.
In addition, Arrochar and Tarbet Community Development Trust has donated a further 16,000 to the project to support its local play areas, children and young people.
Kompan Play has been awarded the contract to refurbish the play parks, and work will commence on the following dates:
- Arrochar -week commencing 28 September
- Tarbet – the intention is week commencing 28 September, depending on weather and availability.
The funding will enable the parks to have damaged equipment replaced with new, more accessible features so that equipment is more user-friendly, and safety features are enhanced, such as softer ground surfaces and improved fencing.
The Council worked closely with local community councils to ensure the equipment meets the needs of the children and young people who will use it. It has been chosen to promote health and wellbeing, as well as simply to have fun.
The parks will need to be closed, for safety reasons, while work is carried out. It is being done at a time which should cause as little disruption to play time as possible.
Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said: “The input from the community throughout the additional funding, consultation and commissioning processes shows just how important the wellbeing of the younger members of our local communities is. What we will have, very soon, are places where they can meet up with their friends, have fun, and enjoy the benefits of outdoor activity.”
