With the signs up for Aldi, it won’t be long until Dumbarton has five supermarkets practically next door to one another. Is it just me (Pedro) or is this a lot of supermarkets in a very small area? Does this benefit consumers? Perhaps the people to ask are the planning convener for West Dunbartonshire Council, Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, and his Labour colleagues Martin Rooney and David McBride. They also allowed Next to build a new store at St James’s Park retail estate. People are asking how that helps traders in the High Street and Town Centre. I think the public should be told, but since their Communications team refuses to speak to The Democrat, it looks like an explanation will be a long time coming. Next May, perhaps?
