Ben Lomond path to close ahead of repairs to popular walking route

The path will be closed for four hours to allow for materials to be delivered via helicopter

Stones will need to replaced along the path.

A walking path on one of the busiest hills in Scotland is to be closed ahead of vital repairs.

The Ben Lomond hill path has become eroded due to high footfall, with a 200-metre section of the route to be restored.

Forestry and Land Scotland will transport materials to the site, located around a kilometre from the Rowardennan car park, via helicopter.

This will require a four-hour closure on Thursday, October 29.

Work to restore the stretch of path using large stones will take around two days to complete.

The more challenging Ptarmigan Ridge route will remain open, but anyone descending via the main path might find it closed during the helicopter drop.

The Ben Lomond path will be repaired over the coming days.

FLS visitor services supervisor, Gavin Crosby, said: “Ben Lomond has to be one of the busiest hills in Scotland.

“Thousands of people come here every year to walk the route to the top and experience the fantastic views across the landscape.

“Unfortunately, being so popular means that the level of footfall is very high, which can have an effect on the path and means that every so often it needs to be repaired.”

“Weather permitting, getting the materials to where they’re needed should be a relatively quick exercise but we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that the temporary closure might cause.”
