NEW HIGH STREET/QUAY STREET LIBRARY TO OPEN ON NOVEMBER 16 OLD ONE WILL CLOSE ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER

West Dunbartonshire Libraries

Dumbarton Library is moving!

The council spin doctors say they can’t wait to show you the new-look library and museum in Glencairn House, which opens on 16th November. To prepare for the move, the current library will close at 1 pm on Saturday 24th October.

Readers can borrow and return books at any West Dunbartonshire library; see www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/libraries for opening times and locations.

A returns drop box will be available outside the current Dumbarton library building for any bookS readers would like to return. Please don’t worry about overdue items, as they will automatically extend the due date for books due during the moving time. And remember, they don’t charge late fees, which is good of them given that most of the members pay council tax.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during the move, the hard-pressed staff have told readers. I’m told their life has been far from easy in the past few months.

Having seen this announcement, readers of The Dumbarton Democrat have posed the question to West Dunbartonshire Council if they are sure they will be able to meet their target to be officially opened on the given date. Are you sure, one reader asked. The completion date for Glencairn House, which is being refurbished with a £20 million grant from Boris Johnson’s Conservative government, has not been met
Meanwhile, trees are still growing out of the roof of the old library in Strathleven Place, which many local people say is still fit for purpose, and that there is no requirement for the Glencairn House premises.
