Views from the PS Waverley
Helensburgh from the decks of the paddle steamer PS Waverley. Malcolm LeMay took these unusual shots of the town and the traffic on the Firth of Clyde which shows how the town is changing. There’s the new council offices at Clyde Street and old faithfuls such as the Queen’s Hotel, still standing but no longer in business. There is a fine shot of of a Royal Navy submarine venturing out into the Clyde on a mission with the steeple of Rhu Parish Church in the background. And that’s the bottom of Sinclair Street at its junction with Clyde Street going east and west. And those crowds on the pier. Doon the Watter indeed. Nothing sells like nostalgia. Bill Heaney
