Mrs McGavigan celebrates her century
Kirktonhill woman Elizabeth McGavigan celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on Monday. A notice of Mrs McGavigan’s special birthday appeared in the parish bulletin for St Michael’s RC Church in Cardross Road, Dumbarton, where she was at Mass with her daughter, Ann, on Sunday. Father Vincent Toal, St Michael’s recently appointed parish priest, congratulated Mrs McGavigan in an announcement from the altar at the end of the service. Mrs McGavigan’s late husband, Jack McGavigan, owned the eponymous family printing business in Exchange Square in Glasgow. The business later expanded to Kirkintilloch where it specialised in printing dashboard dials for the car industry. Family fiend Harry Hyland, who drives Mrs McGavigan to church each Sunday, said: “I called up to the house in the afternoon. Lots of family and friends were there to congratulate Mrs McGavigan on her special birthday.”
