Dumbarton and Lomond constituency MSP Jackie Baillie has called on NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to increase the capacity at the Vale of Leven Hospital all year round since 12 additional beds will be available over the winter period.
Winter planning is a key priority for health boards across Scotland to ensure that hospitals are prepared for an increase in patients, especially the elderly and more vulnerable within our community.
As part of last year’s winter planning an additional ward was opened in the Vale of Leven in order to create additional capacity. This year, the health board has identified 12 additional beds at the hospital which will allow for the likely increase in hospital admissions.
The MSP said: “I am glad to see the Vale of Leven being used as part of the health board’s winter planning process once again this year. For patients from Dumbarton, Alexandria and Helensburgh, being able to access health services at the Vale of Leven hospital reduces the additional worry of having to travel across the Erskine Bridge, especially in adverse weather conditions.
“It would be great to have additional capacity at the Vale of Leven hospital all year round. This would not only be good for patients but would help the health board to reduce waiting times. I hope that this is something that the health board will consider.”
