Salmond faces attempted rape, breach of the peace and sexual assault charges

Alex Salmond, former first minister of Scotland and the ex leader of the SNP, has arrived at court in Edinburgh. He appeared briefly in private on petition before Sheriff Frank Crow in Court II to face 14 charges, including two allegations of attempted rape, sexual assault charges and one charge of breach of the peace. No plea or declaration was made and he was released on bail. Police Scotland earlier confirmed Mr Salmond’s arrest but provided no details of the charges. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that a 64-year-old man has been arrested and charged, and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
