Council gives reassurance about ashes at Cardross Crematorium
By Bill Heaney
Argyll and Bute Council moved swiftly last night to allay fears that the ashes of some people cremated at Cardross Crematorium had been disturbed and mixed together with the remains of others.
A Council spokesperson said: “We want to reassure the public that no buried ashes have been disturbed at Cardross Crematorium.
“Trees within a shrub bed at the crematorium were removed as they were overgrown and impacting on the surrounding lawns.
“The shrub bed area will now be planted with grass seed.
“No ashes have ever been buried within the shrub bed and therefore no buried ashes have been disturbed by this work.
“It is also important to point out that urns containing ashes are not, and never have been, buried anywhere within the lawn areas.
“Ashes that have not been taken away by family members are respectfully scattered in the lawns of the Memorial Garden.
