Death of retired Renton parish priest
By Bill Heaney
Archdiocese of Glasgow has announced the death of Father Peter McKelvie, retired parish priest of Saint Martin’s Renton.
Father McKelvie, who died on Saturday, March 30, was living in retirement at Nazareth House in Cardonald, Glasgow. He was 79.
The Reception of Remains and Vigil will take place tonight (Sunday) in Saint Martin’s Church, Renton, on Sunday, April 7, at 7 pm.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 8, at 12 noon in Saint Martin’s, Renton, with burial thereafter at the Vale of Leven Cemetery.
Parishioners in Renton and Catholics across West Dunbartonshire will remember Father McKelvie as a quiet, kindly pastor.
He once made headlines in the popular newspapers because his dog would often accompany him on to the altar and sit there during the service.
The children in particular thought this was wonderful and would line up to clap it after Mass.
