Dumbuck Country House Hotel owner Petra McMillan, ambassador and super fund-raiser for the Marie Curie charity, and her daughter, Heidi, were amongst more than 60 people who helped to raise money today through a sponsored abseil at the University of Dundee.

Petra thanks her sister, Gwen Erika, for her assistance to organise the event and congratulated all 63 courageous abseilers, who brought sunshine to a rainy day.

She said: “We’ve raised an amazing £10k for our local community nursing service. That means 500 hours of free professional nursing care at home for individuals with a terminal condition, at the end of life in our local postcode area.

“Special thanks to chief organiser Hazel, our volunteers and all those who sponsored our daredevils.

“Hats off too to the chief executive  of Dundee United FC who turned up to support us and gamely signed up on the spot! Heroes every one of you.”

Petra is currently in training to do a sponsored climb to a base camp on Mount Everest later this year. You can contact her on Facebook or at Justgiving.
