It is remarkable that on the 20th celebrations of the birth of the Scottish Parliament, which was set up to strengthen the democratic process in Scotland and berid the country of any democratic deficit, that The Dumbarton Democrat is banned and boycotted by the SNP and West Dunbartonshire Council on the pretext of a lie that our editor interrupted a meeting of West Dunbartonshire to complain about the public right to hear and see what was being done in their name in the “chamber” at the new Burgh Hall in Church Street. And that ban has been imposed without ever bringing this undemocratic decision before the Council. We can only hope that the Council will reverse this decision if only to mark that Scotland is a democratic country and that the ban and boycott will be lifted if only to show that we are living in a free and democratic country where the Freedom of the Press is fully recognised by our public institutions and political organisations, including the SNP.
