A woman died last Thursday after a 4X4 Land Rover vehicle in which she was travelling was involved in a fatal road crash on the A82 at Dumbarton.
The accident happened when the Land Rover, driven by a 74-year-old man, was travelling towards Glasgow on an eastbound lane of the Boulevard near Strowans Well and Barnhill.
At a point near to Strowans Road, Silverton, it appears that the vehicle went out of control, crossed the central reservation and struck a Volkswagen Passat car which was being driven in the opposite direction.
Police, Fire Brigade and ambulances raced to the scene and the 74 year-old driver of the Land Rover was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he is being treated for his injuries. He was not seriously injured.
His 67–year-old female passenger from the Land Rover was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, but unfortunately died that afternoon from her injuries.
She was later named by the police as Theresa John from the Dumbarton area.
A report on the accident will be submitted by the police to the Procurator Fiscal at Dumbarton.
The 53-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was treated at the scene for his injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
Sergeant Archie McGuire of the Road Policing Department at Dumbarton is carrying out an investigation into the crash and appealing for information from witnesses.
Sergeant McGuire is asking for any witnesses to this incident, or anyone driving on this road around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage, to contact police as a matter of urgency.
