Dumbarton and Lomond constituency MSP, Jackie Baillie, has called for more resources to be directed to the health service after figures show that over 500 planned operations have been cancelled in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde for capacity or non-clinical reasons.
The figures, released by ISD Scotland, confirm that hospitals across the board area are being forced to cancel operations because they cannot meet demand.
Jackie has said that this is a symptom of an NHS in distress and a result of the SNP Government’s failure to properly resource our health service. It also means that the promise made by the then health secretary in 2015 to end delayed discharge is still not being implemented.
Jackie Baillie said: “Operations continue to be cancelled as hospitals across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are simply unable to meet demand. It is clear that more resources are needed to fix the crisis facing our health service.
“This is just one more broken promise from an SNP Government which is too focused on independence to focus on the day job.
“Our NHS is in distress and cannot continue to operate in this way. It is time that the health secretary provided patients with the service that they require.”
