A WEE BREAK IN OBAN, CAPITAL OF ARGYLL AND BUTE

A visit to Oban during the holidays with my grandchildren, Jane and Ben, seen here having fun at Ganavan Beach. Oban is a great wee toon for a holiday and the municipal leisure park at the top of the town, complete with Olympic-size pool, tennis courts and bowling greens, is a first class sports provision for families and people of all ages from the very young to the very old. No better place in the world for fish and chips and, for something fancier and much more exquisite, there are plenty of top restaurants around the pier. Take the youngsters round the Bay on a boat to see the seals and salmon farms and over to Kerrera, where you’ll get a lovely meal and a glass of wine. There are special deals for seniors on ScotRail between Helensburgh Upper and Oban. Ask about them at your local station.
