Families to benefit as pupils offered half price school meals

eat-out-to-help-out-logoPupils in West Dunbartonshire will benefit from half-price school meals after the Council signed up for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

The price of meals at schools will be cut by 50% every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during August with West Dunbartonshire families paying as little as £1.23 in Primary schools.

Students in secondary schools can save 50% on food and drinks up to a maximum of £10 per person.

The scheme in West Dunbartonshire will operate by charging children the full cost and then automatically applying a refund to parents ParentPay accounts by early September.

Councillor Karen Conaghan, Convener of Educational Services, said: “This is a great initiative which I’m sure will be welcomed by families at this time. These savings will give children a freshly prepared school meal at a big reduction.”

Councillor Ian Dickson, Vice Convener of Educational Services, said: “It is great that the Council is taking up this scheme and passing on savings to thousands of local families across West Dunbartonshire. I’d encourage parents and guardians to consider taking it up for the rest of the month.”

The menus  are available on the Council website including information on how to request vegetarian, vegan and halal menus which are available upon request. Parents/carers should register any  dietary requirements with their child’s Headteacher or Head of Centre.

Dates to access the full discount are 19,24,25,26 and 31 August and parents will receive the discount for school meals purchased from Monday, 17 August.
