Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton constituency, has urged Morrison’s chiefs to open the new Morrison’s store in Helensburgh without further delay.
This comes after Morrison’s made the announcement that the recruitment drive for filling roles within the new store will begin on 31 August but failed to disclose a date for an actual opening.
Jackie Baillie has repeatedly urged Morrison’s to open its store as soon as possible in order to ensure that local people were not left without easy access to provisions, especially during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
She also encouraged the store to employ those who had previously worked for Waitrose and to residents from the local area to ensure that people did not miss out on any employment opportunities.
Jackie Baillie MSP said: “I welcome the news that Morrison’s plans to start recruiting for our new Helensburgh store and I was particularly pleased to learn that anyone previously employed by Waitrose is guaranteed an interview, should they wish to apply.
“However, it is disappointing that we still do not even know which month the store will open in – never mind an actual date! Morrison’s have been in ownership of the site since June and it is concerning that it has taken so long to open. Local people in Helensburgh and Lomond have been clear to me that they want the store to open as quickly as possible.”
