This photograph came to The Democrat by courtesy of Frances Slorach. It is of a group of women dressed as auxiliary nurses and emergency ambulance drivers with Frances’s father, Dr Charles Slorach, who was Medical Officer of Health for Dumbarton. pictured centre in the front row (seated). Readers of a certain age should have an interesting interlude identifying others in the picture. I think I recognise Rose Cleary (Mrs Carey), daughter of Paddy Cleary, the Strathleven Place undertaker in the back row, second from left. School teacher Sadie McAuley from Wee St Pat’s is third from the right in the front row seated and her sister, Cathie, who was the managing director’s secretary at the Westclox factory on the Strathleven Industrial Estate, is on the extreme right second row standing. Seated on the floor, extreme right is Pat McAuley, who taught Latin at St Patrick’s High School and later became head teacher at St Kessog’s PS in Balloch. * If you recognise anyone then please send their names and where they are in the picture to  Tell friends they can source the picture and enjoy it at  Special thanks to Photo Ecosse in Dumbarton High Street for help with the photograph. The top picture is of the Clydebank Blitz and illustrates the dangerous and dreadful conditions in which these volunteers gave their service to the community during the Second World War. Editor
