Local MSP Jackie Baillie, has welcomed confirmation from the Scottish Government that under 18s can be tested for COVID-19 at the local mobile testing unit in Dumbarton.

This was following a response to a parliamentary question lodged by local MSP in which the Scottish Government confirmed that under 18s can present at the Mobile Testing Unit for self-testing if they need to be tested.

The Government also confirmed that parents can carry out the tests for their young children, and local testing units have instruction leaflets for parents on how to do it.

Testing, testing looks like the safest and quickest way to beat Covid-19.

Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton, Vale of Leven, Helensburgh & Lomond, said:  “This is welcome news for many in parents in West Dunbartonshire and Argyll & Bute who were concerned about where they went to get their child tested.

“Some had been sent to Dunoon even when the Rest and Be Thankful road was closed by a landslip or in one case as far as Dundee, which is simply unacceptable.

“We know testing is key to helping reduce infections and will help the local community avoid further local restrictions.

“I remind parents that if your child is showing symptoms such as a continuous cough, high temperature, or loss of or change in normal taste and smell, then they should consult their GP and look to get tested.

“It’s also important for us all to remember that it is essential that we follow public health advice on Covid-19 such as physical distancing, wearing face coverings in enclosed spaces and regularly cleaning your hands.”
