Remembrance Sunday – West Dunbartonshire
Remembrance Sunday will be commemorated in a different way in West Dunbartonshire this year because of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
In line with national advice, there will be no official services taking place in West Dunbartonshire on Sunday, 8 November 2020, and people are being advised not to gather at war memorials.
Instead residents and veterans are being encouraged to pay their respects at home by observing the national 2-minute silence.
On the day, on behalf of all residents, Provost William Hendrie, right, will lay a wreath at the war memorial at Clydebank Town Hall, Depute Provost Karen Conaghan will lay a wreath at Levengrove Park in Dumbarton and Council Leader Jonathan McColl will lay a wreath in Christie Park, Alexandria.
Provost Hendrie said: “2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and it’s so important that despite the situation we find ourselves in, we continue to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I know people in our community will be disappointed but the safety of all of our residents is paramount and I would ask everyone to instead take the time out of their day on November 8 to remember the fallen in their own personal way at home or by joining the national two minute silence at 11am.”
Remembrance Sunday was well attended in previous years when there was no pandemic.
“Ultimate sacrifice” was it? Yes, by 27 million communist comrades on the Eastern Front. It was Stalin and the Red Army who defeated the Nazis. The British beat it at Dunkirk 1940 and did not set foot on the European mainland again till D Day 1944. The USSR fought the whole of WW2 in Europe. The British fought 1/3 of it. Don’t remember the lie. Remember the truth. People deserve to know the truth. That is what it says in The Bible. Isn’t it? Long Live Stalin. Long Live The Immortal Regiment. You are peeing on people’s graves if you are lying. Aren’t you? My Dad and 4 uncles were in WW2. I am named after my Dad’s brother who was killed in Italy. I’ve got their medals to prove it. I hope there won’t be any lying warmongering propagandists in attendance.

Aleksandrovich Medvedev calculated that Stalin was responsible for the deaths of at least 20 million people by directly ordering their deaths, starving them by deliberate famines or working them to death in the Gulags. Uncle Joe was an amoral, psychopathic and paranoid gangster. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn reckoned that the total was much higher. Perhaps we should take time to remember these victims of Marxist ideology too. All credit to the Red Army for their major contribution to the defeat of Nazism but don’t forget the decades of misery they inflicted by their occupation of large parts of Europe that they “liberated”
