ENTERTAINMENT: MARI GORDON PRICE AND THE NEW FACES

This was local woman Marie Price in her heyday with the New Faces. She was a big star and came from Dumbarton, from Quarry Knowe in Castlehill to be exact. Her stage name was Mari Gordon Price and she appeared on television and in  theatres across the UK. Marie was a big hit on her own home turf and appeared in popular local theatres such as The Metropole in Glasgow, which was owned by Jimmy Logan, from Helensburgh. She was (and probably still is) something of a beauty queen and I remember her being chosen as the Holiday Princess at Butlin’s Holiday Park at the Heads of Ayr when that was the most popular place in Scotland for families who went there on holiday for the Fair. Last time I spoke with Marie, she was writing a novel and, although she had a serious illness from which she made a remarkable recovery, she was up for getting behind the microphone again.
