Changes to festive bin collections in Helensburgh and Lomond

By Lucy Ashton

Please be aware that there will be changes to bin collections in Helensburgh and Lomond over the festive period.

There are also things you can do to help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill over this busy time.

As usual, paper, card, cans and plastic bottles/tubs/pots/trays can be placed in your recycling bins. Please remember to rinse out the cans and plastics. Many types of Christmas paper and cards can also be recycled.

Unfortunately anything covered in glitter or foil-based paper cannot be recycled.  If you want to check if the paper is foil, scrunch the paper up. If it springs back, then please put it in the general waste bin.

Refuse and recycling collections due on Friday 25 December will be collected on Sunday 27 December.

Refuse and recycling collections due on Friday 1 January will be collected on Sunday 3 January.  All other days will be collected as normal.

Blackhill recycling and civic amenity site will be closed on 25/26 December and 1/2 January.

Your 2021 bin uplift calendars are now available to look up on the council website: Bin Collection (argyll-bute.gov.uk).

Last year, only a small number of people requested printed calendars and we are very grateful – this allows us to direct scarce resources to vital services and saves paper. If you are unable to access the internet, you can check your next bin uplift day by calling 01546 605514 and pressing option 2 for a 24/7 response.

If necessary you can request one printed calendar for your household by calling 01546 605514 and choosing option 3 to ask for a printed copy. Please remember, staff are mostly working from home so it may take two to three weeks before someone is in the office to print out a calendar to send it to you.
