Morrisons Foundation has kindly awarded Veterans of the Erskine Edinburgh Home an incredible grant of £24,480.
The donation will be used for the purposes of creating a new multi-sensory room at the home with specialist furniture and equipment, providing portable sensory kits for use in the delivery of end-of-life care and purchasing two all-terrain wheelchairs.
The availability of daily, sensory-based activities will enable Erskine to deliver therapeutic, peaceful and relaxing experiences for all Edinburgh residents, including those with cognitive impairment, those with advanced dementia and those living with complex physical health conditions.
The new multi-sensory room will serve as a quiet and safe space for residents when experiencing distress, provide a backdrop for themed reminiscence activities to stimulate senses and memories, offer a place where residents and relatives can meet to enjoy meaningful activities together, and more. Portable sensory kits will ensure residents at end-of-life are supported to connect with staff and relatives, enjoy pleasurable experiences and remain comfortable.
Putting wheelchairs to good use Erskine veterans receive support from TV sports pundit Alex Rae.
New all-terrain wheelchairs will hugely enhance the variety of outdoor equipment available at the home and ensure all residents have frequent access to physical activity in an outdoor setting. The chairs are designed for use on surfaces such as sand and woodland tracks and will offer residents and families opportunities to explore all sorts of places of interest during trips and outings.
Erskine Edinburgh Home Manager, Alison Payne said: “We really can’t thank the Morrisons Foundation enough for this amazing donation, which will directly benefit all residents of our home. We have always enjoyed great support from our local store in Gilmerton and to see this enhanced by the Foundation is simply wonderful. All equipment funded by the grant will improve the lives of Erskine Edinburgh residents and families for many years to come.”
David Scott, Trustee of the Morrisons Foundation said: “We are absolutely delighted to be supporting Veterans of the Erskine Edinburgh Home at this vital time. Knowing that Erskine consistently delivers an incredibly high level of care for Veterans and their spouses, we are confident that this grant donation will enhance this care even further.”
