Hull families have vowed never to return to Flamingo Land after half term days out were ruined by “awful” conditions at the theme park.Complaints against the North Yorkshire attraction included waits of up to 90 minutes to get in, queues of up to an hour for food, broken-down rides, overcrowding, and dirty toilets.
Kurt Norton, from Hull, who paid £120 and pre-booked his tickets, took his family on Bank Holiday Monday, but said his kids didn’t manage to get on one ride and they ended up “giving up” and going home early.
He said: “You wouldn’t think Covid existed, it was busier than before Covid.
“The park has a responsibility to do as much as they can, not just for customers but for their workers’ safety too, one way is reducing number capacity like any other businesses such as pubs and restaurants.

“It was just a free for all, with way too many people and not enough staff to organise it.”
He said they queued for 90 minutes to get into the park when everyone had pre-paid online tickets, and then had to queue for half an hour for toilets, and another hour for food.
“Some rides were shut, which we knew beforehand. But we never even managed to get on one ride with break-downs and queuing, so we gave up and went home in the end.
“They need to learn from Disney,” he added.
Another parent, from Hull, said: “We went on Wednesday and it was awful. We had to queue from the main road for 50 minutes just to get into the car park.
” I would say 50 per cent of the rides were closed which is understandable at the moment however this should surely have been reflected in the price. “Not all the closed rides were listed on the website and there was one place to get food from which we queued for one hour for.
“Again, if this had been stated on the website this would have been fine and we would have gone prepared. Most rides were a one-and-a-half to two hour wait which meant that after spending £130 you managed three rides maximum.
“The whole park is completely run down, all of the hand sanitiser stations were empty and there were rides breaking all the time. You only have to look at the reviews on their Facebook page or TripAdvisor to see that they have a lot of unhappy customers.”
She said they paid £130 for a family ticket and has been offered half-price tickets for their next visit after complaining, but said she rejected this offer as she has “no intentions” of ever going back.
A Hull NHS worker, who didn’t wish to be named, said she has lodged a formal complaint with the park.
She said: “When we went on Wednesday it was a complete free for all – no mask wearing, no sanitiser in stations, dirty food areas and toilets. They also have a responsibility to ensure they are following the government guideline.
“We went to Fantasy Island in May for my son’s birthday and it was really well organised and safe, yes there were queues, which you have to expect, but dirty and unsafe – you don’t. The problem is that now many people are vaccinated they think Covid has just gone away.”
